FAQS For PPR Pipes

Q: Is it possible to use Risong PPR pipes in compressed air systems?
A: Risong PPR pipes may be used for compressed air - the relevant standards state that they can be used under the same conditions as for water. In your decision about the use it will be, however, necessary to consider some filtration equipment beyond compressors as potential residual compressor oils may negatively influence PPR pipes.

Q: What should be done if somebody accidentally drills a hole on the pipe?

A: If the damaged part of the pipe is not concealed yet (before the pressure test is conducted), the recommended procedure is to cut out that part and replace it by a new part through normal welding of a socket or use original SupraTherm repair kit.

Q: Is it possible to use Risong PPR pipes in distribution systems chemicals?
A: Polypropylene is a material of high chemical resistance, which is specified in relevant standards and depends on chemical types, concentrations and temperatures. Final decisions in concrete applications must be taken by a subcontractor specialized in industrial piping systems, with sufficient experience and ability to evaluate available data in a complex way (i.e. material resistance, safety aspects as well as concrete application placements).

Q: How can we repair the pipe if there is a hole on it?
A: If it is a nail or a drill hole (10.5 mm deep max) you may use "Risong Repair Kit" to repair the hole on the pipe. Please contact to our Technical Department for more/detailed information.

Q: How the new pipes are connected to the existing piping systems?
A: Risong PPR piping System enables to connect to original polypropylene systems by welding or, in the case of metal pipes, by threaded flanges or reducing adapters. The adapters must be made of nickel-coated brass; adapter provided with plastic threads are used for temporary connections of construction sites or anywhere else for a limited period of time. We recommend (in particular if old galvanized pipes are involved) inserting a mechanic filter at the connection point as a precaution against mechanical particles that may damage pipe fittings and/or contaminate water.

Q: What is the expansion for the hot water applications?
A: Under a temperature of 50°C, 1 m. of PN 20 pipe elongates 4.5 mm. This value is 0.9 mm for 1 m. of PN 25 Al foiled pipe for 50°C. You can contact to our Technical Department for detailed calculations

Q: What is the service life (life span) of Risong PPR piping system for different pressure groups?
A: PPR pipes have a service life of 50 years according to DIN Standards for in house applications. To have detailed information for different temperatures and pressure rates, please contact to our Technical Department.

Q: Are Risong PPR pipes used for drinking water? Are they hygienic /healthy?
A: PPR products can safely be used for drinking water. Risong PPR products have got all International Approvals (i.e. SKZ, DVGW, Hygiene Institute, etc.) as well as the approvals of the sales territories.

Q: Are Risong PPR pipes UV resistant?
A: Normal Risong products are produced with UV stabilizers. However, like all other piping systems including metals, pipe works should not be left exposed under direct sun light without insulating or protection from direct sunlight or UV radiation. UV resistant products are also manufactured in our plants, please contact our sales department for details.

Q: Are Risong PPR pipes provided with the oxygen barrier?
A: Risong PPR pipes have no oxygen barriers. Oxygen penetration is prevented by internal aluminum lining in SupraTherm Stabi pipes. Even though we recommend both pipe types for heating systems as the oxygen concentrations penetrated through pipe walls into the distribution system are not significant for the system lifetime. If the system is often locked with air, it is necessary to search for troubles elsewhere and take consequently suitable measures.

Q: Does Risong PPR piping system burn?
A: Risong PPR pipes and fittings comply and are classified under the requirements of the fire classification, B2 (Normally inflammable) according to DIN 4102. In case of a fire outbreak of temperature >800°C, under ideal conditions, with sufficient oxygen, only carbon dioxide and water vapors are produced as the raw material of PPR is a hydrocarbon chain. Toxic fumes or dioxin will not be emitted.

Q: Should any precaution be taken for the installations at low temperatures?
A: Insulation is recommended for the temperatures under +5°C.

Q: What is the product range of Risong PPR piping system?
A: Risong PPR pipes and fittings are produced between Ø20 mm (1/2") - Ø110mm (4")

Q: What are the production standards of Risong?
A: DIN8077/8078 standard in Germanny, and domestic GB/T18742 standard in China.

Q: How can we connect Risong products to other metal systems?
A: Risong system can be connected to other metal systems easily by a flange or a metal adaptor.

Q: Is Risong system insured?
A: Risong PPR piping system has "Third Party Liability Insurance" worldwide except USA and Canada.

Q: Should there be a standard pressure test application after the installation of Risong system?
A: Yes. After installing Risong PPR piping system, it is necessary to go through a pressure test. Unlike metal pipes, but like all other plastic piping systems, has to follow different pressure test procedure owing to their mechanical properties of expansion when subject to pressure, temperature difference and coefficient of expansion. (Test procedure acc. To DIN 1988 PART 2 or BS 6700:1977). For detailed information, please contact to our Technical Department.

Q: Is insulation necessary for hot water applications?
A: Normally it is not obligatory for the plumbers, to make the insulation since the thermal conductivity of PPR piping systems is lower compared to metal piping systems (0.24 W/mK). In case of special conditions, please contact to our Technical Department.

Q: What is the difference between PN 20 and PN 25 pipes due to the application areas?
A: Life span of PN 25 is longer than PN 20 pipes under the same temperatures and pressure conditions. Especially for the exposed installations, as the expansion of PN 25 pipes is 1/5 of PN 20 pipes, sagging and snaking problems are avoided.

Q: Are different colors available for Risong PPR piping system?
A: Yes. Risong piping system is produced in grey, white, green and more color.

Q: Can be Risong PPR pipes used for fire-fighting mains?
A: As polypropylene pipes are classified as C3-class, their use in fire-fighting mains is not advisable but for pipelines running inside structures that can provide fire rating as such. In addition, any potential use must be consulted in advance with a fire protection engineer.

Q: What is the difference of connecting sockets for stench traps?
A: As actual connecting sizes of stench traps in one dimension group differ by material and manufacturer, it is possible in separate dimensions to choose an element, where the rubber collar corresponds to its counterpart (i.e. stench trap piece).
